What is appraisal and co-ordination?
Ministries and government organizations have to correspond with the outside world along their daily operational routines. Once every piece of correspondence delivers its function, it gets out of the bureaucratic cycle and goes out of use permanently. In accordance with the establishment law of the Iran National Archives Organization, all papers, correspondence, registration books, dossiers, pictures, maps, clichés, graphs, films, microfilms, cassettes, and other materials produced by a governmental body or submitted to it and under its control permanently or temporarily, shall be appraised by the National Archives under certain formal criteria. Those records that are regarded as having administrative, financial, economic, judicial, political, cultural, scientific, technical or historical value shall then be transferred to the National Archives. The rest are destroyed under a legal procedure. Deciding whether a piece of records merits permanent preservation, is the responsibility of the records appraisal and Co-ordination Department.
The services of this Department are listed below:
Records appraisal and necessary manpower training.
Determination of records lifespan.
