Since her creation, the National Library of Iran has been collecting books in the different disciplines of Iranian studies. In 1963, all books collected under the rubric of Iran were moved to a different section, which later became an important part of the Library. The section continued growing after the Islamic revolution and was renamed as the Iranian and Islamic Studies Department. All the books in this trove are published in languages other than Farsi and Arabic. Travel books of western visitors to Iran are amongst the more attractive items kept here. Some of these travel books date back to 400 years ago. Apart from books, journals and dissertations in languages other than Farsi and Arabic in the field of Iranian and Islamic studies are kept in this trove, which is one of the largest and richest troves of its kind throughout the world. The major languages of the documents houses here are English, French, German and Russian.
